Lake Havasu City was founded and developed by Robert P. McCulloch, inventor of chain saws and small engines.  In the late 1950's he purchased approximately 19,000 acres of land at a public auction.  His goal was to create a recreational Mecca on the shores of Lake Havasu - a 45-mile body of water fed by the mighty Colorado River.  His company, originally called McCulloch Properties, was subsequently changed to MCO Real Estate, which had sales offices across the country bringing people to the desert to offer them a dream, a brand new planned desert community on the banks of a sparkling lake. In 1968, Mr. McCulloch purchased the London Bridge from the City of London and had it shipped to Lake Havasu where it was reassembled and stretched across what is now known as the Bridgewater Channel.  The bridge was dedicated in 1971 and has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Arizona.
